DIY Coat Rack

coatrackOne thing that we don’t have in this house is a coat closet and a very small entryway.  I was looking for a solution for hanging coats and dog leashes by the front door.  Of course the first place I looked was Pinterest!

I fell in love with this idea!

It didn’t exactly happen overnight.  I did not just have a fabulous chippy column just laying around and an affordable one did not just land in my lap overnight.  I put the word out “on the street” that I was looking for one.  About 6 months or so went by.  I kinda forgot about my column quest.  Until….one of my picking friends {Trish from The Shooters Wife} was picking and came across one.  I scooped it up from her before anyone else could!

I then passed it off to another friend {Janelle from Simply Janelle Designs} who added the base stand made from an old barn floor.

What did I do?  I carried into my house and I attached the hooks! I’m thinking I need a fabulous mirror like the the Pinterest picture has too!

Do you think I should paint the base??  Maybe Duck Egg Blue?

This is so cool! I’ve never seen anything like it. Is something added to the top of the column? I’m not sure about what color to paint the base. If you paint it a color, maybe add a bit of it to the column as well, like the inspiration piece???

A color on the base would be fun…. Don’t limit yourself, any color would be fun…. However, I think it might look a bit more authentic if the base was a brown or black like on the top of the post….. Also, if you go with a color, you could change it to another color down the road if you want…. How fun!

I say don’t paint the base but I kinda like barn wood as it is ;). I actually like yours better than the inspiration picture.

Love it! Great job by Janelle and great find Trish. I think some color would be great but it’s gorgeous as is too.
